The first room was a large area with a big fireplace on the opposing wall. Mounted on a pedestal over the fireplace was a large wood carving of an eagle in flight. Two antique pianos supported the walls on either side with the walls a gallery of paintings from several local artists. The exhibit on wood working tools was backed by photo wallpaper. The scattering of wood chips around the dirt floor created a feeling, that some carpenter had just stepped out of the picture. Behind the museum is the Mabery Galvin Botanical Gardens, named after one of the movers and shakers of the Preserve. These gardens, which were created entirely by the Champaign County Forest Preservation Commission display a delightful variety of flowers both on the grounds and in the large greenhouse which is open to the public. The red bridge in front of the waterfall is a favorite place for outdoor weddings.
